Our History
The story of our Volunteer Center began in Costa Rica. We founded a travel company guided by a simple belief:
“We don’t just explore the world—we contribute to it.”
From the very beginning, we knew that if we wanted to create lasting change, we had to take action ourselves and ensure that every effort and every contribution reached those who needed it most. But how could such a small country make a meaningful impact in a community on the other side of the world?
The challenge was immense, but our commitment never changed. In 2022, we set out in search of a community that not only faced significant needs, but also had the people, determination, and potential to build a better future together.
At first, the goal seemed far beyond our reach. Acquiring land was only a distant dream, and navigating permits and lengthy administrative processes made the vision of establishing our own center even more challenging.
Costa Rica Away began this journey by purchasing and donating a 10,000-square-meter property. This brought us one step closer to our goal, but one major challenge remained: access to water.
Thanks to the extraordinary support of our donors, by the end of 2024 the land had been leveled, fenced, and the construction of a water well had begun.
What once seemed like a distant idea was finally taking shape, bringing us closer to turning this dream into reality.
In 2025, we successfully registered our foundation in Kenya, within the community of Kahuruko, and officially began construction of the center. Today, the community has access to safe drinking water thanks to the generosity of those who believed in this vision from the very beginning.
Our next major step was to introduce the project to the Latin American community and build support for the next phase: the construction of a school, a dining facility, and the volunteer center. These spaces will strengthen education, improve nutrition, and provide ongoing support and opportunities for the community.
We are more than a school. We are more than a volunteer center.
We are an opportunity for Latin Americans to come together and help build a better world.

We don't just travel, we help the world.
If there's one thing that's true in our AWAY family, it's the need to travel with humility. We believe that the impact, learning, and value of our travels are found as much in beautiful and luxurious cities as in the hearts of every person and culture that isn't lucky enough to live in a place with good conditions .
Our approach is to build together with the community; we work from a place of respect, sustainability, and long-term commitment.
This project exists thanks to people who decide to get involved, whether by traveling with a purpose or helping from anywhere in the world.
