WORK METHODOLOGY
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
The volunteer program is developed under a structured process that guarantees planning, local coordination and responsible execution.
01 Diagnóstico comunitario
El trabajo se basa en información recopilada previamente en la comunidad. Las áreas de intervención responden a necesidades identificadas y priorizadas junto a líderes locales.
03 Planificación previa al viaje
Antes de llegar a Kenia se realizan reuniones virtuales de coordinación. En esta etapa se establecen responsabilidades, cronograma y materiales necesarios.
05 Seguimiento y continuidad
Las acciones implementadas se documentan y se integran al proceso general del centro, permitiendo continuidad y evaluación posterior.
02 Project Definition
Based on the volunteer's profile and experience, the area of participation and the scope of the project are defined. Each intervention has clear and defined objectives.
04 Field implementation
The project is being implemented with direct support from the local team. The work is being carried out in coordination with the community and under defined guidelines.
AREAS OF VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION
01
Technology and Education
The digital divide and access to technology is limited in this and many other less privileged areas of Africa; therefore, the arrival of volunteers can help establish computer centers as a tool for computer lessons.
Teaching digital skills and opening up job and educational opportunities for young people and adults.
Furthermore, local innovation and technology can drive local solutions to problems related to water, energy, health, and more.

Infrastructure and Engineering
The upcoming construction of the center will include a school and a well; however, this type of initiative encourages the community in its development of roads and housing, improving access to education, drinking water, and mobility.
As part of our challenge, we strive for sustainable development, with the appropriate infrastructure to promote long-term economic and social development.
The center will also serve as a knowledge transfer channel, with volunteers possessing technical skills to train local people in safe and efficient construction.

Agricultural and Livestock Development
Food security and teaching sustainable agricultural practices and more productive farming techniques can reduce hunger; expanding the variety of crops produced in the area; which expands economic empowerment and would improve agriculture, creating income for many families in the community.
In turn, the conservation of the environment and the introduction of ecological agricultural techniques help to preserve natural resources, which have not been affected so far by other types of industrial practices.

Health and Disease Management
Your volunteering would positively impact many regions around Kahuroko that lack adequate access to basic health services, vaccination campaigns, and health education.
Furthermore, we are in an area where education on hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, or infectious diseases (such as HIV/AIDS, malaria or tuberculosis) can save lives immediately.
In this region, healthcare systems are overwhelmed or understaffed. Trained volunteers help alleviate the burden on the community and improve the quality of service.
PROGRAM SECURITY
While our volunteer programs officially launched in 2025, our parent company, Costa Rica Away, has been operating and creating experiences for Costa Ricans in Africa for over five years. More than 400 people have enjoyed unforgettable experiences in Kenya.
Therefore, the safety of volunteers is an absolute priority. The program operates in pre-screened and safe areas, with adequate infrastructure suitable for the development of your project. For this reason:
Local and Costa Rican staff are accompanying the group at all times.
Local medical assistance and a contingency plan are included.
Informational meetings are held before, during and after your volunteering.
ACCOMPANIMENT
The program is not limited to just the trip, but includes a comprehensive preparation process:
Prior preparation sessions with the volunteers, focused on intercultural awareness, development of soft skills and collaborative work.
Pre-trip coordination meetings to resolve doubts and present the itinerary, project objectives, and safety guidelines.
Advance definition of materials and tools needed for the project, with guidance and continuous support before and during the volunteering.
